The M4 replaced the previous M3 Coupe - the Coupe and Convertible models now consider the 4-Series. The previous 4.0 V8 was replaced by a twin-turbo 3.0 L six, rated at 317 kW and 550 Nm. The increase in broad-range torque lifted performance considerably.
