Continuing BMWs new naming strategy, the 1977 E23 marked the first BMW 7-Series. Large, luxurious, with a sporty bent, and powered by BMWs smooth inline-six cylinder engines, the E23 was a step closer to the benchmark Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
