Name: Diffrent Steering mechanism Author: Øyvind Steinnes homepage: http://f0nix.i.am Lego: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=Phoenix Description ----------- Steering 1 is just independent suspension and steering, it can be made a lot smaller than this. But this was just a first attempt to make a steering mechanism without special steering parts from the set #8880 or set #8466. Steering 2 is the first attempt to make an front wheel drive mechanism with independent suspension on both wheels and steering that works ok. But now the wheels is too far from each other. That's because I added a diffrential in the middle. But the steering is verry stabel and solid. Steering 3 is the second attempt to make an front wheel drive mechanism with independent suspension on both wheels and steering that works ok. Now I removed 2-units in space by setting the diffrential further in front and added some Technic Link Chain to transfer power from diffrential to the wheels. The construction is stil stabel and solid. It's 22 units from the inside of each wheel. Steering 4 is the third attempt to make an front wheel drive mechanism with independent suspension on both wheels and steering that works ok. Now I've tried to move the wheels closer to the axis of turn. This solution works fine in Ldraw and looks good teoretical. But its verry unstable and wobbly in practice. The reason is that the "Technic Axel 4" that goes trough the "Technic plate 1x6 with Holes" has a tendensy to twist around its own axis. And all the other components add to some slack in the joint that make the wheels abel to twist without the steering links moved. It's 20 units from the inside of each wheel. Steering 5 is second attempt on making only steering and independent suspension. It has no drive capabilitys (yet?). I'm feeling like cheating with this model, since I used one half of the spring from one damaged damper on each side og this steering. But it IS small, is it? Steering 6 is a steering with drive and independent suspension. But here I've use the steering components from the 8466 set. But when putting the diffrential in front of the wheels instead of the standard between them I could manage it to become only 14 bumps wide between the wheels. The Ldraw file is missing the important parts from 8466 set, but its obvius where it should be. The other special parts are the pink parts. That is actually one Technic Axel 2 sawed in two pieces. The diffrential could be better placed 90 degree of the possition it is now. Have to find another way to do this...
