Name: Race Condition Build by Kåre Slettnes and Ingar Mælum Arntsen This robot was built by my friend Trew (Kåre Slettnes) and his fellow stundent Ingar Mælum Arntsen at University of Tromsø (Norway) at the D-340 course in the year 2001. The objective was to make an robot that acted like an sheepdog. It had to collect the sheep and bring it to their corner of the arena to score point, the team that scored most points after a 15 min period had won. They had an camera mounted high above the arena and an IR tower too. The camera recorded images, and trought a imagesoftware they got the possition and direction for each robot and the sheep (like a GPS). This information was sent throug both IR tower and the LAN. Thats why you can see an strange sign on top of the robot on image 105-0529_img.jpg and 105-0530_img.jpg. The box represent the sheep in these pictures but was under the contest replaced with a robot that moved randomly, with that sign on top. When tuched the sheep-robot moved in the pushed direction, but they could also "bark" (sending an teamnumber trough the IR port) at the sheep, and it would move away from the "barker". They could also controll their robots by sending commands through the IR tower above the arena. The arena was a square about 5x5m big surrounded by 10cm high fence. And there was 4 robots competing at the same time in that arena.
