Name: Joran Kast Species: Mandalorian Male Class: Jedi Consular/Outcast Weapon(s): Twin Lightsabers, Stun blaster Affiliation: Lightside/Unknown Around the time of Revan's uprising, Joran Kast was a padawan trainee under the tutelage of Jedi Master Lonna Vash. He was a quick learner and it didn't take long for the Mandalorian-born padawan to master the basics of the Force. Despite Joran's affinity for the Force, the Jedi Council became wary of his Mandalorian heritage and forced Vash to give up training her student. When Vash confronted the Council on their decision, they explained that brutality and violence, two staples of Mandalorian teachings, had been passed down to Joran through birth and that they held a grip on his mind. These tendencies had not been evident, but the Council had no doubt that these feelings would lead Joran to the darkside. Unfortunately, Master Vash never got the opportunity to tell Joran of the Council's decision when the Jedi Order was unexpectedly forced into exile. Vash went to Korriban and Joran spent almost two years searching for his lost Master. Fearing she had been captured and killed, Joran turned to the remaining Jedi for guidance; however, they were still plagued with the terrible memory of the Mandalorian War and did not trust him. He tried many times to desperately gain their approval, but in the end, he was still deemed an outcast. With no one to confide in, Joran considered giving up the way of the Force all together until a hermit of a Jedi named Jolee Bindo found him and trained him further without the knowledge of the other remaining Jedi. Joran spent many years learning about the Force on Kashyyyk before he left to roam the galaxy and renew his devotion to his commission as a guardian of peace and justice. Despite his Mandalorian heritage, Joran has never been prone to violence or acts of aggression, though he constantly battles these urges to engage in conflict. He favors a diplomatic approach and, if that fails, he relies on his lightning-quick lightsaber skills. He learned to dual-wield from Master Vash and became quite proficient at it. He has never favored the use of blasters (like Obi-Wan Kenobi) and only uses a stun blaster to incapacitate or disable his opponents. Currently, Joran Kast acts as a sort of bounty hunter, only taking upon jobs that threaten the lives of innocent people. His ship, the Shadowcaster III, has become a feared and respected ship to both bounty hunters and pirates alike. He hopes that, through his actions, he can mend the wrong-doings of the Mandalorian people and once again establish the image of the Jedi as noble and peace-loving keepers of the galaxy. It is rumored that Joran has encountered many notable figures through out his life. Some examples are Admiral Carth Onasi, the current Mandalore, and possibly even the Jedi hunter Saber Scorpion. “I fight for peace, yet there is a war within me; The Mandalorian in me hungers for the glory of battle, while the Jedi in me strives to be a guardian against such tendencies.” – Joran Kast E-mail me at zacharysweiggart@delta.edu for comments or questions.
