Brick replica project: Tenchi Masaki's house from anime "Tenchi Muyo" et al Phillip Thorne Thursday, 4 July 2002 ...one problem is that the house's details aren't constant. In the OAV series "Tenchi Muyo!", it has a blue roof. In the subsequent TV series (titled in the US "Tenchi Universe" and "Tenchi in Tokyo"), the roof is red. Even within one series, minor details and proportions aren't constant: such as the vertical placement of the third-floor windows, and the horizontal count of window panes. (In "Tenchi Muyo", the house was originally located in a suburb, but was taken aboard Ryo-ohki by Ryoko -- shrunk and flattened, complete with Tenchi's father. It was then decompressed in its new lakeside location, near the Masaki family shrine, when Ryo-ohki subsequently crashed. --It seems that water, sewer, electrical and telephone connections were conveniently available. The house was later demolished by a crashing Galaxy Police flyer, and rebuilt in a completely different shape to better accomodate the unexpected number of permanent houseguests. Offscreen material claims that Tenchi's father is an architect.) *** Version 1 masaki_01b.jpg - masaki_02a.jpg - Version 2 Being an OAV, the original "Tenchi Muyo!" had a larger per-ep budget than the subsequent TV shows, and the backgrounds had more detail. On the house, this included the exterior timber framing. I'm substituting black for the brown framing, yellow for the blond wood of the exterior wainscotting, and grey vent-textured 2x1 for the doors. masaki_032a.jpg - Reference images ref11_tenm_01a.jpg - right ref12_tenm_02a.jpg - pantry shed ref21_tenu_02a.jpg - right aerial ref31_tent_01a.jpg - front ref32_tenu_01a.jpg - front ref41_tenu_03a.jpg - left ref42_tenm_03a.jpg - left aerial
