LEGO and the United States Postal Service come together Starting on September 12, 2002 and lasting until September 15, in the Crockett center in Austin, Texas, the LEGO Company, with the help of local children, created the world's largest LEGO stamp. The stamp chosen was one of the latest released by the USPS of a leaf-nosed bat. The finished mosaic was composed of over 172,000 2x4 bricks in black, white, light grey, dark grey, blue and green. 600 large grey baseplates were used to create the massive picture. The mosaic's designer, Stephen Gerling (yellow shirt) was on hand to oversee the construction. Jolene Bauckman and Brian Bowler were also on hand as LEGO representitives. Several members of TEXLUG volunteered their services as well, helping to set up, sort, and take down the model. The majority of the pieces used in the model will be donated to local schools.
